Immerse yourself in the sounds and work of history. Taconic String Quartet will provide the ambiance of 18th-century chamber music, taking us on a musical journey with works by Vivaldi, Boccherini, Handel, Boyce, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, plus arrangements of songs from colonial New England by William Billings. Meanwhile, get hands-on with history as we prepare historic textiles for papermaking. Manchester Historical Society (MHS) will provide archival natural-fiber textile materials for this first step in our three-part Threads of History papermaking project, which will culminate in a broadside print by A Revolutionary Press.
Join us for all parts of the papermaking project to learn how scraps of fabric are turned into paper, and ultimately into works of art.

The Threads of History program series at MCL, in partnership with MHS, features Manchester and Southern Vermont’s textile past and weaves the fabric of history into auditory, visual, and tactile experiences of the Industrial Revolution. The series, supported in part by Vermont Humanities, explores themes from this year’s Vermont Reads book, Charity and Sylvia by Tillie Walden.
